ba ba
In the morning Lillian will go through an entire list of people she’ll say hello to. She’ll start off saying: mommy, daddy, and then she’ll say some friends and then she’ll get to ba ba… which is sort of universal for grandma or grandpa. And she’ll stay there for a while. She’ll find all sorts of short phrases she can make with ba ba: bye bye ba ba… morning ba ba… hi ba ba… mmm ba ba… In fact throughout her day she’ll ask for ba ba. It’s pretty cute how much she likes ba ba. And you know every time she ask for ba ba, I’m reminded of the simple truth that I don’t have grandparents I can personally identify with. I mean my folks were pretty much orphans as little kids after the communist government took over their town and killed their parents. Growing up my parents never really wanted to talk to me about how hard it was growing up without their own families. So I really have no idea what it’s like to be around my own grandparents. I don’t have pictures of them. I don’t have stories about them. No crazy outfits that only grandparents will buy for you to wear. Com’on, you know what I’m talking about. Tell me your grandparents didn’t make you wear the most funky outfis they could find at K-mart or Ross. So yeah as Lillian joyfully calls out for her ba ba, I can honestly say that I’m grateful that CJ and I can give Lillian the opportunity to be with them…
