the fun stuff

There’s always someone that steals the show in Britain’s Got Talent. To be honest with you, I rarely watch this show. But everyone seems to write about it. Usually I let others show threads on the talent. I think last year it was an older guy who came out of his shell and realized his dream which was to sing opera. This year it’s a similar story; about a woman in her mid-40’s who can bring the house down with her voice.

All shocking. All really inspiring.

We love these stories; where people for reasons unknown to us never got the chance fulfill their dreams. And now they have this incredible opportunity to stand in front of their country and go for it.

But this!?! Now this is seriously what I want to see more of… I mean it makes me smile and laugh. It captures my attention; makes me want to get out of my chair and dance.  It’s what we all need to see from time to time. It reminds me that deep down what I long for is a sense of joy…

hope in sports?

front page of the sports section reads: oden sprains ankle. the city’s anxiety to see oden play this season is every indication that portland needs something hopeful. something to cheer for–a messiah that can redeem everyone from 10 long years of basketball mess. seems as if we have this innate sense to identify ourselves with someone and for something that represents us. and when they win for us… we’ll do all we can to support them. can you imagine if the church embraced the same truth? if we just adopted the city and its mess and gave it hope again? could you imagine the impact; the truthful change that would take place in many people who find religion something to be ignored or even despised. the church ought to be the first to bring hope. if a bunch of guys can run around a court with a little round synthetic ball and make believers out of an entire city gotta believe the church can do more with the gospel.

palin and comedic bias

October 1, 2008 jc Leave a comment

political humor, whether biased or not, is exactly what i need right now because the candidates have been a bit stale for me as of late. no one’s telling me anything i don’t already know. since nothing seems to be influencing my vote, i actually don’t mind the media blitz on palin as it tempers our obama lovefest and adds a new dimension to the conversation. by mere media attention though, she’s slowly becoming harder and harder to embrace and that’s gotta make mccain a bit nervous.

now i’ve never once voted for someone outside my party and its unlikely i will this year. my concern, however, with mccain isn’t age. it’s not 8 more years of the same. wish those who love obama would realize that it’s impossible to duplicate what bush has done domestically or abroad. really, no one can repeat what’s been done. what concerns me is the reason why mccain chose palin. she may be in person someone to deal with but in the public eye she sounds borderline incompetent.

so where it all comes down to is her ongoing debate(s)with obama and biden. i don’t care if she comes roaring back and rallies to show she’s got what it takes. if she tanks the first couple of debates, obama and biden win. so my eyes are moving away from the hilarious snl takes on palin to how she’ll handle the bigger issues facing our nation.

love146

recently sat in on a presentation put on by a supporter of love146

being reminded that children all over the world (including the US) are being purchased and sexually abused evoked some very dark feelings. i think i moved from sadness to anger and then to a sheer hatred for those who would practice something so evil. i’ll never understand what causes a human being to prey on innocent children. my prayers and support are for organizations that fight for what is right; for those who want to love and protect others.
